Herb Morgan Responds to 2026 California Controller Election Results
November 4, 2026 | Statement from Herb Morgan, 2026 Candidate for California State Controller
Following the November 3, 2026, California general election, Herb Morgan, Republican candidate for California State Controller, issued the following statement congratulating incumbent Controller Malia Cohen, reaffirming his commitment to fighting government fraud, waste, and corruption, and calling for a 2028 ballot proposition to make California's statewide executive offices nonpartisan.

Herb Morgan Congratulates Malia Cohen and Calls for Government Accountability
I congratulate Malia Cohen on her re-election as California State Controller. The people have spoken, and I respect their decision.
I challenge Controller Cohen to fulfill her stated commitment to transparency.
Government fraud is not a Republican issue or a Democratic issue. It is an issue that affects every Californian. It steals resources from working families, undermines public trust, and deprives those most in need of the services they deserve.
California deserves real accountability, continuous oversight, and radical transparency. I intend to continue fighting for all three.
A Call for Nonpartisan California Statewide Elections in 2028
I also call for a 2028 California ballot proposition to make all of California's statewide executive offices nonpartisan.
These positions should be filled based on qualifications, experience, integrity, and ideas—not party affiliation.
Californians deserve the opportunity to judge candidates on their records and their plans, without a party label influencing that decision.
Government accountability, fiscal responsibility, and transparency should transcend political parties. The responsibility to protect California taxpayers belongs to every elected official, regardless of political affiliation.
Thank You to Our Supporters, Volunteers, Donors, and Campaign Partners
I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone who believed in this campaign.
Thank you to Chairwoman Corrin Rankin and the California Republican Party; Assemblyman Carl DeMaio and Reform California; the Republican Senate and Assembly caucuses, particularly Senators Brian Jones and Tony Strickland and Assemblyman David Tangipa; Steve Hilton and the extraordinary slate of Republican candidates who stepped forward across California; and every voter who participated in this election, regardless of whom they supported.
To our donors, volunteers, and interns, I offer a particularly heartfelt thank-you.
You gave your time, your resources, your energy, and your belief to a cause bigger than any one candidate.
Our interns brought fresh ideas and boundless enthusiasm. Our volunteers worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes and without recognition. And our donors made it possible to take our message of accountability and transparency to millions of Californians.
Your commitment was extraordinary, and I will always be grateful.
Special Recognition: Swing Wire Media and Nicolette Mangubat
Special thanks to Swing Wire Media and Nicolette Mangubat for executing an extraordinary campaign.
With limited resources, our team delivered remarkable efficiency, creative branding, disciplined tactics, and relentless execution. I could not be prouder of what we accomplished together.
The Fight for California Government Transparency Continues Beyond 2026
Our campaign may have ended, but the cause has not.
The fight against government fraud, waste, and corruption does not belong to any political party. It belongs to the people of California. And the demand for accountability does not end on Election Day.
I look forward to continuing that work—and to the opportunities that lie ahead in 2028.
Herb Morgan
2026 Candidate for California State Controller
