California has always been more than a place. It has been an idea.

For generations, people came here because California represented opportunity, freedom, innovation, and the belief that if you worked hard enough, you could build something better. From the Gold Rush to the farms of the Central Valley, from Hollywood to Silicon Valley, California became the state where people came to dream big.

My new single, “California,” is about that history—but it’s also about what has happened to the state we love and why I believe we can turn it around.

California Is Worth Fighting For

“California” starts with the state’s extraordinary history and the generations of people who built it. But the song quickly turns to the California families are living in today.

Our cost of living is crushing working families. Roads and infrastructure need attention. Homelessness remains a crisis despite billions of taxpayer dollars being spent. Too many students are struggling with basic reading and math. And Californians are constantly being asked to pay more while getting less in return.


That raises a very simple question:

Where is all the money going?


That is exactly the question the State Controller should be asking.


Follow the Money

I’m running for California State Controller because taxpayers deserve more than promises. They deserve receipts.


The Controller should be an independent financial watchdog—not another rubber stamp for Sacramento.


My Radical Transparency plan is built around a straightforward principle: Californians should be able to see how their government spends their money.


Every transaction. Every agency. Online for everyone to see.


Government spending shouldn't disappear into massive reports that ordinary Californians have neither the time nor the accounting degree to decipher. Modern technology gives us the ability to make state finances dramatically more transparent, searchable, and accountable.


And when something doesn't add up, the Controller should follow the money.

It's exactly the opposite.
California is still home to extraordinary people, businesses, communities, farms, universities, innovators, workers, and families. The potential that made California the Golden State hasn't disappeared.
But restoring it requires accountability.
It requires checks and balances.
And it requires leaders willing to ask uncomfortable questions about how taxpayer dollars are being spent.
As the song says:
“Oh California, California
We can turn it around, I know we can.”
I believe that.
California is worth fighting for.
